Japan: the Promise of Today

We spent yesterday morning at a Moomintroll exhibit in Nagano Prefecture Museum, and then walking around town before heading back to Tokyo. Today is national cat day. I have such plans….

Tomorrow we are going to the Snoopy Museum. Or maybe Tuesday, because it might be closed tomorrow, which would make tomorrow the Panda Carnival. The Ueno Zoo pandas are going back to China so in their honor there is a month-long celebration. You can buy anything to eat shaped like a panda: rice, chocolate, some weird sandwich meat.

You can always buy anything cat shaped to eat, or enshrined in cat-adorned plastic. A lot of Japanese package food looks like the kind of thing children are promised if they behave well at an important adult occasion. Cats are literally inked in chocolate atop pastries, and egg omelets from the grocery store come with Scottish fold cats on their wrapper.

So not a lot to write about today, as I plan to embrace the cute side of Tokyo in a big way, and will fill you in on the more spiritual side of our adventures in the Kanasawa artistic community later.
